This is my weekly compilation of photos and prompts. If you’d like to see these delivered daily to your inbox when they’re first released, including some subscriber only exclusives, consider supporting my work with a paid Substack subscription ($5 monthly, only $36 annually). Thanks for following my curiosity journey.

Stay curious, preferably with a camera in hand.

Posture

Open, closed, adventurous, pioneering, naysayer, curious, negative, positive, skeptic, resentful, opportunistic.

Approach matters…more than we often give it credit for.

Dead End

Most dead ends aren’t dead at all. There’s a lot to be discovered on the dead end trail because they’re not well traveled. It’s similar to what we can find off the beaten path. So, next time you see the sign, consider taking some extra time and exploring the detour. Who knows? You might even find there’s more to experience after it ends.

It turns out, the real cool stuff is where most people don’t bother to go. But, curious people do.

Worldly

The world and all it contains is more reachable and open to us than ever in history. Learning isn’t limited to just the chosen. It’s now accessible to just about everyone. Every topic is available for us to dive into, often for free (or nearly free). What’s holding us back? Perhaps, it’s too many choices? But, it’s also likely we’re stuck in the past when the paths were much more restricted. Alas, we settle on what’s necessary to get by, to fit in. And, by what’s directed towards us. But, there’s more, so much more.

We don’t need to go to class. We just need to be curious, find a channel and connect with likeminded people.

Aligned

Cultures and communities develop around unified people who are aligned in their ideals, beliefs and values. And, society works better when there’s harmony established on trust and boundaries. But, an evolutionary culture, one seeking to make things better, also requires exploration, openness and some trial and error.

Blindly following along in lock step without question isn’t what we were designed to do. We are curious creatures, who think, reason and find new ways to solve problems. Forcing us to stay in line never turns out good.

Open

It’s a simple choice really. Are we open, or closed? What’s our posture? How do others see us?

How often de we change our minds? And, can we do it with intention?

Small and Slow

If you’ve ever tried this with a marshmallow or pepper, you know the delicate nature of the process. Hold it too close to the flame or for too long and the resulting combustion isn’t very digestible. Unlike some other forms of cooking, open flame roasting requires constant attention, care and small adjustments to achieve the desired result. It’s a slow process, but worth the wait. It’s kind of like driving. Small, measured inputs are better than radical and reactive changes if comfort is primary goal.

How often do we find ourselves overcorrecting or moving in leaps just to speed things along, only to crash and burn in the end? Try doing things more slowly and with more precision instead. It might just work a little better.

Attention

Before we go get it, perhaps we should ask ourselves what sort of attention we’re really looking for.

Shouting may work in the moment. But doing remarkable work in a subtle way goes much further. Drop, drip.
