This is my weekly compilation of photos and prompts. If you’d like to see these delivered daily to your inbox when they’re first released, including some subscriber only exclusives, consider supporting my work with a paid Substack subscription ($5 monthly, only $36 annually). Thanks for following my curiosity journey.

Stay curious, preferably with a camera in hand.

Certainty

One of adventure’s prerequisites is uncertainty. The tension we feel about the pending outcome is what makes the journey meaningful. The surprise, delightful or not, is the fuel for our curiosity. While certainty is its nemesis.

Stay curious, seek uncertainty.

Wait

Sometimes, the pause is planned. But when it’s not, there’s a an opportunity, a choice to make. What can we do with the moment? How can we spend it in a positive way? What can we notice? Who can we meet? Is there a chance encounter in the offering?

Life’s full of waits. It’s only a matter of what to do with them. Choose wisely.

Silly

It’s all invented…being serious, being angry and especially being a bit silly. But, if we’re going to choose one…

Don’t forget Rule #6

Patience

There’s nothing holding us back from being patient. Yet, impatience shows up so much more often. How does the modern construct of time, and the way we keep it, change our relationship with patience? What if there were no clocks? What would happen to our capacity and tolerance for waiting?

Precise

A specific result is hard to come by. And, not often even necessary, unless we’re building a bridge, performing surgery or baking, where exactness isn’t an option. But most of the time, it’s okay to deliver imperfect. Something which turns out a little different than we expected. Perhaps the deviation is better than meeting spec. It must be…otherwise, better doesn’t have a chance.

The key isn’t to always achieve perfection. It’s knowing when to let our curiosity lead us somewhere different.

Studio

How would our work change if we changed the wrapper? What about our work is tied to a physical space or the tools we use? How transportable is the thing we offer?

Perhaps we should develop a craft and skills which can go places. Then, it’s not such a big deal when it comes time to go.

Display

We live in an increasingly hyperconnected world. Information seemingly flows from everywhere, all of the time. The problem to solve is no longer how to get it, but how and when to present it. And for now, more seems to be better. So, screens are getting larger…in cars, handhelds, monitors, etc. It’s a page out of the super size phenomenon. Not sure it’s a good thing digitally either.

Part of our creative responsibility is to leverage constraints. What happened to less is more?
