This is my weekly compilation of photos and prompts. If you’d like to see these delivered daily to your inbox when they’re first released, including some subscriber only exclusives, consider supporting my work with a Substack subscription (also complimentary, but donations welcome). Thanks for following my curiosity journey.

Stay curious, preferably with a camera in hand.

Prescribed

There was a time, perhaps not so long ago, when some of our work came prescribed. It might have arrived in a three ring binder, full of procedures and specifications. Creativity was something left for others. It was tough to go off script, against the rules and quite unpopular. More and more we have the tools, the opportunity and the challenge to explore boundaries and produce work from scratch. Making something we can call our own isn’t reserved for the fortunate few, the crazy ones. Yet we settle, waiting for the three ring binder to arrive. I see it all around.

We don’t need to be artists in the traditional sense to be considered creatives. We just need to choose to work with a blank sheet. No need to wait any longer. We need you now.

Robotic

At what point does the inanimate become real? Does it need to breathe in order to live? Semantics aside, we’re quickly approaching (perhaps we’re already there) the time when it’s hard to distinguish reality. There’s a race to reduce our hardship, increase entertainment and make our work super efficient. The questions then, where does this leave us? What do we do next? How do we bring our art, grace and personality into the world? How do we make our dent?

Blanket

What situations make us feel safe and warm? Where are we the most comfortable? Now, think of the times when we’re the most exposed, stressed and tense. Somewhere in between there’s space to explore, to learn to become more comfortable with the discomfort. There’s a time and place to remove the blanket. How can we create more opportunities to find them?

Temper

The art of tempering chocolate can’t be rushed. Timing, consistency and temperature are blended harmoniously to achieve the smoothness we all appreciate. Too fast and the process fails. Slow and steady are the essential attributes.

Where else might we incorporate some temper like cadence to make a better impact? Where are we going too fast?

Sustain

Life is finite. So are ideas, products, good vibes and success. Our ability to recognize the ebb and flow, the ups and downs, good and bad and then take action to sustain, revitalize or infuse life when necessary is a valuable skill. Sometimes it’s up to us to be the wind in the sails, not just to set the course.

Shelf

Books are an amazing invention, a relatively inexpensive vehicle to share wisdom, opinion and instruction. But, they only work if we open them. And better yet, write one.

How are we fueling our curiosity and open mind? What’s on the shelf?

Clues

About where, when, how and even why are all around us. We simply need to stop and notice.

Stay curios, pick up clues.
