Wrapper
What makes it taste better? Does the wrapper matter? How about the location? Or, the pedigree and heritage? Can a glass actually have an impact on what it holds?
Of course it can, and it’s all invented, which is precisely why the stories including the wrapper work.

Utility
Some things have more function than utility. The value goes beyond the use case. The more story we have built-in, the more it connects and moves someone. Not everyone, but enough.
What’s your story?

Random
Random works on pizza. Not so much when spec counts, like building a bridge. Often though, we’re concerned with exactness when random might be a better option. When is it okay to paint outside the lines? Leave the script? Or, build something from scratch?
How can we add some randomness into our work to make it more artful?

Restrained
It’s important to differentiate between what’s holding us back and how we’re impeding ourselves. Resistance is often disguised as a constraint imposed on us. But most of the time, it’s invented or dramatized by us to keep us from going where we really want to go. The key then, is to get real about who’s really holding the leash.

Form
Form and format matter almost as much as substance in the context of visual presentations. A random or chaotic mess isn’t a good idea if we’re trying to illustrate focus, thought, attention to detail and care. Our effort shows up in how something appears, which might even get us to think more about what’s underneath. How did they do that?
We can tell when you’ve taken the time to do something well. Rushing rarely results in good form.

Perch
Vantage point determines how we see the world. The cool part is most of us get to change it at will. The sad thing is many choose not to change their perch.
Narrow mindedness is a choice. The good news…so is open mindedness. How can we find a new perch to help us see things differently?

Final Touch
Part of our responsibility as creatives (and we’re all creatives) is to apply the final touch, to determine when it’s ready to ship. It creates tension and is sometimes a tremendous burden. But, we’re fortunate to have it. The alternative isn’t nearly as impactful or satisfying.
“Here, I made this”…isn’t for everyone. Thankfully, it’s reserved for us.
