Weekly Grab

This is my weekly compilation of photos and prompts. If you’d like to see these delivered daily to your inbox when they’re first released, including some subscriber only exclusives, consider supporting my work with a Substack subscription (also complimentary, but donations welcome). Thanks for following my curiosity journey.

Stay curious, preferably with a camera in hand.

Patience

There are times when hurrying, worrying and anger won’t make things any better. But, patience has a real chance.

Where can we add more patience into our lives?

Appearances

What we want people to see isn’t always what appears to them. Consider their viewpoint is almost always different than ours.

How we want to be seen is worth reflection from time to time.

Backstory on this subject is available here.

Capture

If it’s worth remembering, it’s worth capturing. The method isn’t important as long as it speaks to you. It might be a photo, a journal entry, a sketch or a deep meditative thought which sticks. Taking the time to memorialize our findings makes them more meaningful. It forces us to engage with the moment differently than just passing by.

Curiosity leads us to the interesting. Capturing allows us to hit a replay button, which is possibly the best gift we can give ourselves.

Camouflage

Staying in the background, hiding in disguise feels safe and comfortable. And, sometimes it pays to be discreet. But, it’s also an avoidance tool. An important question to ask ourselves then, what’s the hiding for?

Direction

Sometimes, the direction isn’t as important as the going. And, the next step is always the critical one.

Intimidation

Sometimes, it’s obvious. But, often it’s less visible, which then gets in the way of making real progress. Power, authority and status have little to do with physical danger. But, they can be equally harmful.

How can we expose and mitigate our own intimidation in order to earn more trust?

Hero

Heroes embody qualities we believe to be important and meaningful. They’re strong, steadfast, resilient, intelligent and witty. But, they also have weaknesses and fears, just like us. What we often admire the most is their ability to work through setbacks and doubt to achieve success. And, this is the part we need to mimic. The clawing back and dusting ourselves off after being pushed down. The ability to live with and through discomfort and pain.

It’s easy to flex when things are going well. But, it’s a much tougher task to persevere through hardship and loss. Choose a hero which helps you see and get to the other side.
