Weekly Grab

This is my weekly compilation of photos and prompts. If you’d like to see these delivered daily to your inbox when they’re first released, including some subscriber only exclusives, consider supporting my work with a Substack subscription (also complimentary, but donations welcome). Thanks for following my curiosity journey.

Stay curious, preferably with a camera in hand.

Unusual

Why is it this way?

What’s it for?

Who’s it for?

How does it work?

A head scratcher is a real gift…to those who are curious. Avoid ordinary. Seek more unusual.

Waste

What to save and what to throw out. What’s not useful today might be needed later. In early human history if we couldn’t carry it and it wasn’t immediately useful, it was left behind. Abundance wasn’t a common problem. So, there was little waste to manage. Today, it’s a decision we face almost constantly. What do we do with the rest?

It’s easy to focus on the physical waste. But, what about a resource far more precious, like our time? What to do when we remove the busy? What to do when we’re idle?

Fleeting

Unlike the night of the winter solstice, new doesn’t last very long. At some point, most of it ends up in a box hoping for some sort of nostalgic connection.

While helpful in many ways, technology is largely momentary. What seems groundbreaking today, likely won’t be for long. Better then to focus on skills which can take advantage of these moments, yet can stand alone when things change. Being a good orator for instance has little to do with the medium. Same with photography, fashion design and cooking. AI and the like improves our efficiency. But, likely won’t replace the human touch we can all bring to the table…me thinks.

Method

How we arrive there is rarely as important as achieving the outcome we desire. However, our method is often a vital part of the story. And, a good story always matters.

Which of our methods would be missed if they weren’t part of our story?

Mark

We all leave them. What story do your marks tell?

Energy

…can come from many places, activities and accomplishments.

Where did you find the most energy in 2024?

How can you make more time for these practices going forward? And, what new habits might you develop to give you even more energy? Which draining activities should you leave behind?

Gifts

The true gift lies in the act, the effort, the thought, the inconvenience, the story behind the thing. Otherwise, it might just be another thing.

What’s the story which serves our gift?
