Weekly Grab

This is my weekly compilation of photos and prompts. If you’d like to see these delivered daily to your inbox when they’re first released, including some subscriber only exclusives, consider supporting my work with a Substack subscription (also complimentary, but donations welcome). Thanks for following my curiosity journey.

Stay curious, preferably with a camera in hand.

Relative

Far, Near, Light, Dark, Noisy, Quiet, Fast, Slow. No matter what we believe, it’s probably not true, at least relative to how others see it.

Comparison isn’t usually a good strategy. But when we do, make sure we’re speaking the same language.

Multiples

Making a one-off is completely different than producing a series. Production of multiples requires a system, a process which can efficiently reproduce a prototype. Many of us are engaged in work or projects which at some point need to be replicated. But at the same time, we see ourselves as unique artists or craftspeople seeking to be recognized for something unique. Both elements are valuable, but require different mindsets and skills.

The best time to decide to make it again is before we make it. This way we can design a system into the process of what we’re thinking of making.

Lead or Follow

Who says it needs to be Or? We need both. One doesn’t happen without the other.

“Sometimes I lead and sometimes I follow”. In which situations are we better leaders? And, when can we best serve by following? Great leaders know when to let others take the lead.

Dark Side

There seems to always be one, whether we choose to see it or not. Acknowledging the possibility is the first step to sorting it out.

Make Believe

Of course, it’s all invented. Our fears, desires, constraints and privileges are all what we make of them. Real is elusive. Make believe not so much.

Visibility

Sometimes, what we’re trying so hard to see is actually right in front of us. Visibility is more about openness and possibility than clarity and focus.

I Made This

The ultimate accountability buddy. Put something into the world. Attach your name to it. Now, there’s nowhere to hide.

Pretty straightforward. And, very effective.
