Tension

A spring has three states. At rest, it’s merely a tool, waiting for work to do. It needs a lever, an action, in order to be useful. Once it’s compressed, it’s harnessed energy can be made productive. And then, the actual work begins when the tension is released.

Unlike a spring, our decisions include tension at each state. There’s the tension which comes with having to decide. Then, there’s the tension of choice. And finally, the tension which comes with our actual decision. But, unlike a spring, most of our tension is self induced, driven by fear. A spring has no fear, it just does the job. Of course, a spring isn’t on the hook because there’s no choice. It either works. Or, it doesn’t.

Embrace and enjoy the tension. It’s what makes our journey meaningful.
