The performance business includes a veneer…the layer put on and promoted to attract an audience. It may not, and likely does not, represent what’s going on when the spotlight is off. Of course, it’s easier than ever before to see what’s underneath, the process, the behavior, the “real” deal. But, mostly what we want as an audience is the show…as advertised.
All of us are in show business. We serve people at work, at home and at school. We play a part on various stages. And, as a performer, we made a promise…to show up with our best stuff, even when we don’t feel like it. What would our poster look like? Surely, it would show us at our best. Might as well live into it then.
